Support
Email support@thegoodneighbor.community and a person will read it. We aim to reply within two business days, and faster when something is urgent.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. Then tell us, so we can act on the account.
Reporting someone
You can report a neighbor from the content itself — you never have to go hunting through their profile to do it.
- Find the task, comment, recommendation or conversation in question.
- Tap the … menu on it.
- Choose Report, and tell us what is wrong.
We review every report and remove offending content within 24 hours, and we suspend or terminate the accounts responsible. We have a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive users — you can read the full community rules.
You will not be told to "just block them" instead. Reporting and blocking are separate: blocking protects you straight away, reporting is what gets the content taken down for everyone.
Blocking someone
Tap the same … menu and choose Block. It takes effect immediately and works in both directions:
- Their tasks, comments, recommendation answers, conversations and notifications disappear from your app.
- Yours disappear from theirs.
- Neither of you can send the other a message.
- If you had a chat thread open with them, it closes.
To undo it, go to Profile → Blocked Users and unblock them. Everything comes back.
Deleting your account
Profile → Delete Account. It happens inside the app — no form, no email, no waiting on us. It removes your profile, tasks, comments, recommendations and messages. If you are locked out and cannot reach the button, email us and we will take care of it.
Why the app asks for my location
So the feed can show you tasks close enough to actually help with. We use one reading at setup to work out your city and county, and that coarse area is what we store — your device's location is never stored, and task pins come from the address you type rather than from your phone. You can decline the permission and enter your area by hand instead. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
My feed looks empty
Good Neighbor is deliberately local, so a quiet feed usually means a quiet neighborhood rather than a broken app. Try widening the scope from the feed's filter — ZIP code, then city, then county — or join a community for your block or building. If you have recently moved, update your area in Profile → Edit Profile.
Notifications
Everything that happens to your tasks lands in your in-app inbox. You can turn individual kinds on and off in Profile → Notification Preferences, and system-level permission is in iOS Settings under Good Neighbor.
Points, badges and the leaderboard
You earn points for completing favors. They are a record of showing up — not currency. They have no cash value and cannot be transferred or redeemed for anything.
How recommendations work
Ask for a kind of pro you need, and neighbors answer with real local businesses. Those answers build a shared directory with vouch counts, so you can see who your neighborhood actually stands behind. Marking "I went with them" after you hire someone is what makes the next person's search useful.
A vouch is a neighbor's opinion, not our endorsement — we have not vetted these businesses. Use your judgement.
